I don't know. It's an old thought, a common one, and a true one I think. I started saying it that way a while ago, and was wondering whether I picked it up from somewhere.

What happens is that someone focuses on some truth to the exclusion of others, and then sets it in opposition to others, like Calvin who used the sovereignty of God to eradicate free will. Think of any heresy--arianism, for example--and you can generally see how it seized on a truth and went wild with it. Just goes to show that the worst enemy of a good principle is the fool who carries it to a ridiculous extreme.
